General information

The last week before maternity leave has arrived — the 29th week of pregnancy. Some lucky women have already begun maternity leave and can finally focus entirely on the final stage of pregnancy. Now you eagerly await every new sign and prepare to meet your baby.

You will need to visit your doctor more often, and it will soon be time to attend classes for expectant mothers. Gradually adapt to your new condition: find comfortable body positions, adjust your daily routine, and accept help from loved ones.

Woman: daily routine and weight control

If you are at 29–30 weeks of pregnancy, the most important thing during this period is weight control. Listen to your doctor and be a disciplined patient. Excess weight is unnecessary for both you and your baby. Trust nature to determine your baby’s optimal size — the baby’s growth adapts naturally to the size of the mother’s pelvis. Do not try to override natural growth patterns by overeating. Multivitamins should not be taken continuously; your doctor will advise you on the appropriate duration and dosage.

Heartburn, nausea, lower back pain, and insomnia may occur at the 29th week of pregnancy. However, preventing these discomforts largely depends on you. Eating small portions helps reduce heartburn. Avoid sitting in uncomfortable positions, wear comfortable shoes, and your back pain will be less bothersome. Try to sleep at regular times in a well-ventilated room.

Fetal development at the 29th week

If a baby is born at 29 weeks, the chances of survival are high. The baby will require special equipment that replicates conditions inside the womb, but about 90% of survival potential already exists — this is considered a high level of viability.

At 29 weeks, the baby actively accumulates fat and gains weight. The cheeks become rounder. Fat first accumulates and is later absorbed first from the cheeks — this is nature’s way of making breastfeeding easier during the baby’s first year of life.

The baby already looks like a newborn. During the final weeks of pregnancy, the baby’s main task is to gain weight and prepare the lungs for independent breathing.

The baby’s hearing, vision, sense of smell, and taste are formed. The baby can distinguish light from darkness, although the ability to focus vision will develop after birth.

29th week — baby’s weight

This is the period when the baby’s heartbeat can be clearly heard. The baby has grown significantly, making it easier to examine internal organs. At the 29th week, the baby’s weight should be no less than 1,200 grams, and length may exceed 35 cm.

29th week — movements

Fetal movements are felt more distinctly. At 29 weeks, this is completely normal. The baby may hiccup, open and close their eyes, startle, or play with their arms and legs. Every movement is clearly felt by the mother. These sensations are usually not painful, although some discomfort is possible.

Preventing postpartum depression — the right time

The 29th week marks the period just before maternity leave. A new stage of life is beginning, where all your attention, thoughts, and emotions will be focused on your baby. This is the perfect time to read good parenting books. The knowledge gained will be useful, as there will be little time for reading during the first months after birth.

Avoid watching sad films or programs related to childbirth. Focus only on positive emotions and inspiring stories. Psychological preparation for childbirth and acceptance of future changes begins now — this is the foundation for preventing postpartum depression.

Without spices and allergens

Everything remains as before: avoid fried, spicy, smoked, and salty foods. Minimize spices, pastries, and sweets. Eat fruits, vegetables, cottage cheese, porridge, fish, and lean meat. If swelling occurs, adjust fluid intake accordingly.

Avoid foods that contain allergens.

Only routine tests

Usually, only routine urine and blood tests are performed during this period. Sometimes a vaginal smear is taken. Ultrasound is prescribed only if medically indicated.

Soon, you will visit your doctor even more frequently. This regular supervision will help you feel calm and protected from unnecessary worries.

If you take care of yourself…

If you control your weight, eat properly, and engage in gentle therapeutic exercises, you may receive well-deserved praise. Many women notice that their hair grows faster during pregnancy — hormonal changes often have a positive effect.

Do not avoid visits to the hairdresser or manicure specialist. Looking beautiful during pregnancy helps preserve this special time as one of the happiest periods of your life.
