Changes in the mother's body

Back pain and leg cramps may be observed.

General information

By the 19th week of pregnancy, many women are already feeling the baby’s movements. Some can clearly sense each movement, while others describe it as the first gentle “fluttering of butterflies.” The expectant mother’s weight continues to increase gradually, and her hips become fuller.

The baby is also growing and gaining weight, becoming more and more like a tiny human being. Pregnancy is approaching its midpoint, and this is something that cannot help but bring joy.

What happens at 19 weeks of pregnancy

Finding a comfortable sleeping position becomes increasingly difficult. Sleeping on the stomach is strictly prohibited — and in fact, it is already uncomfortable. Sleeping flat on the back is also not recommended, as the uterus can compress the inferior vena cava, which is unsafe. The safest position is lying on the side with the legs slightly bent. By the way, placing a pillow under the legs or between the knees can make sleeping more comfortable.

As the uterus continues to grow, some painful sensations may appear in the pelvis and lower back. Gradually, the pelvic bones begin to widen, and this process may not be painless. However, pulling pain in the lower abdomen should be a cause for concern and requires medical attention, while mild discomfort is considered normal.

Avoid sitting in one position for long periods. Chairs with back support should become your “best friends.” Do not sit with your legs crossed, and completely give up high-heeled shoes.

Fetal condition at 19 weeks

The baby’s brain is growing and developing actively. This is reflected in the increasing coordination of movements — previously chaotic motions gradually become more orderly.

The 19th week is the period when the baby’s bronchial tree is forming, and the respiratory system continues to mature. The baby’s sebaceous glands also become very active, producing a white-gray protective substance that shields the fetus from amniotic fluid and pathogenic microorganisms.

At 19 weeks, the fetus develops rapidly: the baby’s neck becomes stronger, allowing the head to turn up to 180 degrees. The fetus measures about 15 cm from the tailbone to the crown, and weighs approximately 200 grams.

The baby begins to send signals

At this stage, wonderful experiences enter your life — tactile sensations of your baby and emotional bonding with them. The baby begins to send signals through the first movements, making you feel their real presence even more strongly.

During this period, the mother’s emotional state is usually stable. She may feel slightly tired, and daily tasks may become more demanding, but engaging in exhausting activities is not recommended. Love yourself and your baby, rest when needed, and stay active when your condition allows.

The foundation of the diet — porridge and beef

At this stage, fried and fatty foods should be excluded from your diet. Spicy, smoked foods and meals with artificial additives should also be avoided. Pickled foods and sweets must remain under strict control.

On the contrary, foods rich in calcium and iron should firmly take their place in your daily menu. This means that buckwheat, oatmeal, dried apricots, blueberries, tomato juice, and beef should become regular components of your diet.

Eat small portions but frequently, and avoid snacking late at night.

Ultrasound at 19 weeks of pregnancy

It is time to check blood sugar and hemoglobin levels, as well as to submit a urine test to determine protein levels. If necessary, the doctor may also prescribe a blood test to assess progesterone levels.

It is quite possible that a second mandatory ultrasound will be scheduled at 19 weeks. During this examination, the doctor will check the baby’s heartbeat, evaluate fetal movement activity, and diagnose possible abnormalities. The size of the uterus and fetus will also be recorded, and the condition of the amniotic fluid will be assessed.

Sensations at 19 weeks of pregnancy

Very few women can still hide their condition at this stage. Even if there are no pigment spots on the face and enlarged lips or nose do not reveal pregnancy, the rounded belly is almost impossible to conceal. In addition, weight gain clearly indicates a special condition.

As the uterus enlarges, a woman’s gait begins to change. This is the perfect time to forget about high heels for several months.

Continue using creams that help prevent stretch marks caused by skin stretching, and take care of your skin, hair, and nails. If dental problems arise, visit a dentist — at later stages of pregnancy, sitting in the dental chair for long periods becomes much more difficult.
