The baby can distinguish light and dark.
Swelling may appear in the legs.
Pregnancy’s body continues to develop and improve. The baby is closely connected to the mother, including emotionally — all of your feelings and emotional experiences are transmitted to the child.
It may already be difficult for you to stand or sit for long periods or to engage in monotonous activities. The further course of pregnancy and how the baby feels largely depend on how well the expectant mother takes care of herself and treats her body with care.
What happens at the 22nd week of pregnancy
Discipline is one of the most important qualities of an ideal expectant mother. When sleeping, it is best to lie on the left side; when sitting, lean against the back of a chair or sofa; do not cross your legs. Remember that every movement you make now serves the well-being of two people — you and your baby.
Do not waste time: tasks that are easy now may become very difficult in the third trimester. Walk more, visit museums and exhibitions, and spend time in nature. Take advantage of this opportunity while you can. As pregnancy progresses, your weight will increase, your belly will continue to grow, and the load on your lower back and legs will become heavier.
For many women, this is the time to start wearing a maternity support band, which helps reduce the strain on the lower back. Be sure to consult your doctor before choosing one. If necessary, begin prenatal gymnastics — it helps maintain good health and prevents excessive weight gain.
Condition of the fetus at 22 weeks
Your baby may make up to 200 movements per day, though you will not feel all of them. However, if the baby becomes noticeably too active, it may indicate a lack of oxygen. Perhaps you are not spending enough time outdoors. Inform your doctor about such increased activity so the cause can be determined.
The 22nd week is a period of active tactile exploration for the baby. The baby may touch its face, make grasping movements with its hands, and tap on the uterine wall. The baby enjoys sucking its fingers. At this stage, movements are felt clearly, and it is easy to determine whether the baby is asleep or awake. The baby has already formed into a small human being — able to distinguish light from darkness, sense changes in the mother’s mood, and respond well to melodious music. You should pay attention to the baby’s movements and kicks: the baby may be “telling” you that you are sitting or lying incorrectly, or that you are speaking too loudly.
Emotional aspect: overcoming awkwardness
Many women notice changes in their gait at this stage — movements may become slower, less agile, and slightly clumsy. Some women accept these changes calmly, while others feel awkward. At such times, support from loved ones is very important. However, do not place all responsibility on them — try to accept the changes happening to your body with dignity.
Treat yourself with new clothes, try different hairstyles, and rest more. Perhaps this is one of the most beautiful and wonderful periods of your life, and it should be lived fully.
Nutrition rules: eat more often and avoid fatty foods
It is advisable to start keeping a food diary. This is the stage when weight can increase rapidly. If you eat indiscriminately, the risk of excessive weight gain rises. This affects the course of pregnancy, childbirth, and the overall appearance of a young woman.
Even if you are taking vitamin supplements, try to obtain nutrients from food as well. Choose beef instead of fatty meats. Replace mayonnaise-based salads with light vegetable salads dressed with olive oil. Nuts, dried fruits, cottage cheese, and stewed vegetables should be consumed regularly.
Ultrasound at 22 weeks
At this stage, you may still undergo the second screening ultrasound. The doctor will assess the baby’s condition and evaluate the state of the placenta and umbilical cord. Ultrasound can detect developmental abnormalities, as well as excessive or insufficient amniotic fluid if present.
This examination also allows the baby’s size to be assessed. At 22 weeks, the fetus measures about 19 cm from tailbone to crown and weighs approximately 350 grams.
Other commonly performed tests at this stage include a complete blood count and a general urine test.
Sensations at 22 weeks of pregnancy
You have not gained much weight yet, and your gait may still feel relatively light. Therefore, there is no need to expect disappointment when looking in the mirror. Simply take good care of yourself — this will boost your confidence and enhance your natural attractiveness.
At this stage, gum problems may worsen. If your gums bleed heavily, it is time to change your toothpaste and undergo safe dental procedures.
