General information

Pregnancy is an extremely delicate and unique process, which is why the way it progresses is of great importance. According to obstetric calculations, the 5th week of pregnancy corresponds to the third week after conception. At this stage, the expectant mother is particularly interested in what lies ahead, what sensations she may experience, and how the baby is developing.

Overall, this is a very favorable period. The woman’s body is gradually adapting, and the embryo continues to grow and develop. Therefore, if the pregnancy is planned and long-awaited, and if you already suspect its presence, you should be extremely careful and begin taking special care of your health. This is because it is precisely during this period that all of the baby’s internal organs and systems begin to form.

Sensations at the 5th week of pregnancy
If the expectant mother has not yet noticed changes in her condition, the first signs of pregnancy will soon make themselves known. Most women learn about their changed status precisely at the 5th week of pregnancy. This period is characterized by the beginning of symptom manifestation, which makes it possible to suspect pregnancy.

Of course, the very first and most important sign is a missed menstrual period. In addition to the absence of menstruation, a woman may experience weakness and general discomfort, which are associated with the beginning of hormonal changes in the body.

Externally, no obvious changes are visible yet. However, upon closer observation, the expectant mother may notice that the areolas of the nipples are beginning to darken, and that a bra which previously fit well has suddenly become tight. In rare cases, a dark line may appear extending downward from the navel. Although these signs are usually more noticeable at later stages of pregnancy, they may sometimes appear already at this time.

Signs of pregnancy at the 5th week
At the fifth week of pregnancy, a test does not always show the long-awaited two lines, because the level of the pregnancy hormone in the blood may still be quite low. Nevertheless, the expectant mother may begin to notice a number of the following signs:

nausea, especially in the morning;

enlargement and increased sensitivity of the mammary glands;

pulling pain in the lower abdomen;

increased sensitivity to smells;

drowsiness, lethargy, rapid fatigue, and similar symptoms.

It is important to remember that just as each person’s body is unique, every pregnancy can also have its own individual characteristics. You may not experience any discomfort at all and may not feel the changes taking place in your body — this is also completely normal. There is no need to worry if no symptoms appear at the 5th week, as this can also be a natural condition.

At the 5th week of pregnancy, a woman may experience a number of new emotional changes. These may include irritability, heightened sensitivity, emotional vulnerability, or, conversely, a feeling of happiness and an unexpected surge of mental energy. These states may alternate frequently. At times, you may feel full of strength and vitality, and at other moments you may feel tearful and weak like a small child. Sudden movements or changes in body position may cause dizziness, and sometimes abdominal pain may occur. At the 5th week, discharge may also appear; if it is not excessive and not accompanied by severe pain, it can be considered normal.

What happens at the 5th week of pregnancy
At the 5th week of pregnancy, the embryo is still very small. However, during an ultrasound examination, its presence can already be clearly confirmed. In most cases, the doctor is able to detect a fertilized egg within the uterine cavity.

The formation of the rudiments of internal organs continues. At this stage, the respiratory and nervous systems begin to form. At the same time, the embryo is represented by just a single neural tube, which will later develop into the brain. The cells of the embryo continue to divide actively. It is precisely during this period that blood vessels and the cardiovascular system begin to form. Very soon, the heart begins to function. Although it is difficult to imagine, the tiny heart starts beating. At the 5th week of pregnancy, the length of the embryo is only about 2 mm.

At this stage, the risk of miscarriage still remains high. Therefore, it is necessary to limit excessive activity, sports, and physical exertion for the next nine months.
