General information

The 9th week of pregnancy corresponds approximately to the seventh week after conception. Since it is difficult to determine the exact day when fertilization occurred, it may be that six full weeks or almost eight weeks have passed since conception.

The ninth obstetric week marks the beginning of the third month of pregnancy. Of course, not everyone around you can yet notice external changes in your body, and they may not understand the real reasons for your frequent mood swings. The true cause may be revealed only by early-onset toxicosis, although fortunately, not all pregnant women experience it.

However, by the ninth week, a woman is usually already aware of her pregnancy based on certain signs indicating that pregnancy has begun. By this time, she may have already visited an obstetrician-gynecologist or registered for prenatal care.

What happens during the 9th week of pregnancy

During the ninth week of pregnancy, a number of changes occur in a woman’s body. If you have noticed that your favorite dress has become tight around the waist, this is no coincidence. However, from the outside, pregnancy may still remain unnoticed by others.

At this stage, the uterus increases slightly in size, and its walls stretch somewhat. This is the right time to purchase a good cream to prevent stretch marks that may appear as a result of skin stretching. Creams containing sufficient amounts of vitamins A and E are especially beneficial.

Sensations during the 9th week of pregnancy

At this stage, you may notice a slight decrease in body weight. This is related to the development of early toxicosis during the first half of pregnancy. It is characterized by nausea, vomiting, aversion to food smells, and sensitivity to perfumes and fragrances that were previously pleasant. As a result, appetite decreases and some weight loss may occur.

However, if toxicosis has not troubled you over the past two to three weeks, your weight will gradually begin to increase. In any case, weight gain at this stage is usually minimal and barely noticeable.

During this period, fatigue and dizziness may persist, especially when turning your head sharply or changing body position. To prevent fainting, it is advisable to be cautious and avoid sudden movements.

One of the most noticeable subjective signs of pregnancy at this stage is the sudden enlargement and swelling of the breasts. In this way, your body begins preparing for future breastfeeding. By the beginning of the 12th week, the breasts may increase by a full cup size. The likelihood of the first stretch marks appearing is quite high.

Condition of the fetus at 9 weeks of pregnancy

During the ninth week, active development of the fetal brain continues. It has already divided into two hemispheres, and now the cerebellum — the part responsible for movement coordination — begins to form.

Muscles continue to develop, and the arms and legs become thicker. The fetus’s movements become more coordinated. It begins to move its arms and legs. Due to the more developed blood supply system, the arms develop slightly faster than the legs.

The fingers on the hands lengthen, and the membranes between them gradually disappear. Palms begin to form. During the ninth week of pregnancy, the fetus’s back straightens somewhat, and the tail disappears.

Sex life

If there are no contraindications and no risk of miscarriage, you may continue your sexual life during this period. Sexual intercourse is not prohibited in the early weeks of pregnancy; however, it is still advisable to be cautious. Increased uterine tone may lead to bleeding, so extra care is required.

If dark or brown discharge suddenly appears during the 9th week of pregnancy, sexual activity should be temporarily stopped, and a gynecologist should be consulted. Whitish or yellowish discharge is considered normal.

Nutrition of a pregnant woman

Special attention should be paid to the diet of a pregnant woman. Considering the effects of early toxicosis, the variety of foods consumed may become significantly limited. Eating can turn into a real challenge.

You may feel nauseated by almost any food while simultaneously developing strong cravings for specific products. It is recommended to eat small portions but more frequently. This helps reduce nausea and ensures the body receives necessary nutrients.

This is especially important during the first half of the day, as toxicosis most often worsens in the morning. Instead of a single large breakfast, it is better to divide it into two or three smaller portions and eat them gradually.
